| | | The World Greets The Class of 1982 "The economy, stupid," was a phrase in American politics widely used during Bill Clinton's successful 1992 presidential campaign against George H.W. Bush. It was coined by Democratic Party strategist James Carville. However, ten years prior, the U.S. economy, struggling through its worst year in four decades, was overwhelmingly voted the top story of 1982 by Associated Press newspaper and broadcast member editors. | SU Basketball 1981-1982 | It was not a great year for the Orangemen. Their record was 16-13 and the team did not go to the NCAA tournament. However, there were many thrilling moments provided by Eric Sandifer, Leo Rautins, Tony Brrin, Gene Waldron, Andre Hawkins, Ron Payton, Calvin Perry, etal. The Dome rocked. Fans cheered, moaned and groaned. The memories of the inspired play that set the tone for the following seasons have lingered through the years and continue to swell our chests with pride. - Sam Penceal '66, Network SU Athletics Group Administrator |
