 First Amendment Fund

Hi Lee,

Thanks for your interest in helping to promote the Newhouse III project.

As you know, several months ago we added a bold and unusual design element to the façade of the building. The words of the First Amendment are imprinted – in letters six feet high – on the windows that girdle the second floor, giving the impression that Newhouse III is "wrapped" in the First Amendment. The faculty agreed that this speaks to the very core of the School's mission.

Donors to the First Amendment feature of the building will be recognized on a wall that will be located on the ground floor of Newhouse III. People can become First Amendment supporters at the following levels:

Foundation - $10,000 or more
Cornerstone- $5000-9999
Supporter- $2000-4999
Citizen- $1000-1999

Pledges are payable over three years. Anyone who is interested should contact me directly, and I can give them more information. We would also talk about how they would want their name to read. My contact information is below.

On group donations - those are great and welcome, but in terms of recognition, please understand that we can only put the group name on a plaque - not the separate individuals. The same would be true if they were to band together and name a room for say, $25,000, or anything similar. We could recognize them collectively, but not individually. It's not that they don't deserve recognition as individuals. This is just owing to the sizes of the plaques.

It is exciting to see the building nearing completion. Please keep the date of September 19th, 2007 on your calendar. It would be great to have you attend the dedication ceremony, where Chief Justice John Roberts will deliver the keynote address.

Let me know what else you need, and thanks again!
