To those interested in the Network,

Newhouse III Dedication

Let's bottom line this right now.

  • Have you made a decision to attend?
  • Would you attend if you had the time off?
  • Please pass this message along to Newhouse alums you know?

Please participate. We have a few questions for you right away.
Where were you for the opening of Newhouse I and Newhouse II? Would it not be historic and exciting to share this moment with dignitaries, special guests and fellow Network participants? Our Network participants, attending the event, will commemorate the Dedication with a group photo. Make sure you are in that photo!

In the event that the Network's official volunteer photographer cannot excuse himself from his Downstate daily professional duties, are there any of you who are willing to provide this much needed service? As many of you know, the Network is always in need of participants who can capture Historic moments like the Newhouse III dedication. If you, or an alum you know, are handy with a digital and/or video camera please contact us ASAP! Your skills are needed and necessary for this journey!

Take Action Now!

1. Contact the Network to let us know your thoughts!

2. Call into the Network's special Newhouse III Voicemail Response Line 641-715-3900 extension 33762#.

3. Respond to this e-Campaign by mailing your comments to newhouse3network@gmail.com.

4. Talk within your listserv groups about the value of attending this event.

  • Make travel arrangements now!
  • Pass this along to other Newhouse alums.
  • Let us know how this works for you!
  • We really want to hear from you. Of course, we would like to publish the names of those who have plans to attend the Dedication. Selected voicemails may be published in the Network’s Web Portal or Virtual Office. It would help if you could send along a recent picture of yourself.

Newhouse Alumni - Attend the Newhouse III Dedication Ceremony with the Network

Created August 03, 2007

The Newhouse School Black and Latino Network, aka "the Network," is asking and suggests that you seriously consider returning to campus on September 19, 2007, for the opening of Newhouse III. Why? We will not belabor the concept of school spirit at this time. Okay, okay, we all know that Newhouse ROCKS! With that said, let's get serious. We hope that you realize that the opening of Newhouse III is an important occasion in the future development of one of our country's most established and respected academic institutions.

But, how important is this event to you and me? Is it just another high-tech building wrapped in the words of the First Amendment? Is there a major significance to you? Can you embrace and appreciate the importance of this new edifice? Are you a PROUD graduate of the Newhouse Communications School? These are all great questions for us to think about! For some of us, thoughts of the Newhouse Communications Center may not move us like the wave of the SU ORANGE winning the NCAA's. In perspective, it is arguable that the world is more in awe of the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communication's reputation than some of its graduates. Well, there is a place for some introspection here.

YOU did work hard, learned well and were trained by some of the best instructors across the nation. You competed against your fellow classmates when it came to jobs and opportunities, only to find, later in life, that you are still "family" - Newhouse Family. You now have a better opportunity to help define how that relationship will benefit your future, through the school and networking.

We honestly feel you should be proactive and make your presence felt and known by attending the opening of Newhouse III. You know that Newhouse alumni are outstanding in their fields. This is you…so own it!!! Come and socialize with the U.S. Supreme Court Chief Justice, query new and old faculty about the significance of Newhouse in the New Millennium. Reconnect with fellow alumni, and current Newhouse students. Meet Max Patino (Newhouse's Director of Diversity and Recruitment) and get to know his perspective within Newhouse! Imagine the effect of hundreds of Network participants showing up at the steps of Newhouse III - a powerful image – a powerful alumni family, connected through New Media.

Okay, even if it is only a handful that shows up, it is a start! Stand shoulder to shoulder with other pioneering alumni participants as we usher in the era of New Media found in Newhouse III, and reaffirm protection of the First Amendment. By the way, from a total of just over a hundred participants, the Network has 55 to 60 Newhouse alumni signed-up. In addition, more than a few live in the Central New York area. To enhance this appeal, we are asking that even those Newhouse alumni, who have yet to sign-up with the Network, make your way to Syracuse, New York for the opening of Newhouse III.

If you are employed, unemployed, or under-employed, the Newhouse III Dedication Ceremony will be the place to be. If you are hiring, plan on coming. If you plan to attend the Newhouse III Dedication Ceremony, let us know. We will be working with Newhouse Staff to effect some special accommodations at the ceremony. Be there! The Network's Room and Ride Share Services are suspended until further notice. You are on your own for travel and hotel accommodations.

If you just cannot make it, please intensify your efforts to network within the NSBLN Virtual Office. Remember, we help ourselves, through networking. This Network is what you make it. Visit it! Make use of it and make it work for you.
