NSBLN Virtual Office

The NSBL Network Virtual Office is up and running.

- Several participants have not logged on to the Network in over 12 months. Participation policy requires that all Network participants log on at least once in a 12-month period, or loose the privilege. Log on now if you are a NSBLN Participant.
- Forum link delays several seconds.
- Personal image database tends to corrupt when site admin fails to log out after logging-in to another account; requiring a reset from Virtual Office Host.

NSBLN Web PortalSome of you have already experienced a problem viewing the NSBLN web portal and newsletter. Microsoft migrated our site from beta to a final platform that is supposedly easier to design. In the process, many of our pages have lost their professional appearance. The new site editor is now more limiting in how we can present content. A major loss has been the fact that this new editor has totally replaced the Newsletter with the homepage. We have exhausted normal means of dealing with Microsoft regarding this free account. Basically, they are saying: "You get what you pay for. So upgrade!"  However, we suspect that many of the same problems would reoccur even if we upgraded to a paid site. Sort of a backhanded compliment, Microsoft wrote, "Looking at your web site, it seems that you were able to design your web site I[n] an advanced way and in a not supported way as well." Although we are handcuffed, we will attempt our best of redesigning the web portal given our new constraints. We suspect that for some of you, this compromise should not be entertained. This was truly a case where the BETA WAS BETTER for the Network. We originally spent three months perfecting the look and feel of the site, using a basic technical "hammer and chisel" approach. Alas, time constraints and timing now have a different impact for us in providing total service to the overall structure of the now busy Network. We will work hard, of course, and do the best we can with the current web portal. In addition, we will be open to working with another gratis web host provider, other than Microsoft.

NSBLN Sign-up LinkNo known issues at this time.

NSBLN E-mailAll accounts are up and running.
- AOL account holders may experience a denial of delivery to any e-mail which has Daily Orange links. This is an issue between AOL and The Daily Orange. The matter may or may not be fixed as of this date; however, please look at the broadcast mail information below.

 NSBLN Broadcast Mail

- All participants and pending participants are asked to place on their safe lists any content originating from the Network.

- Virtual Office broadcast mail delivery has failed twice in the last 12 months; requiring a reset from Virtual Office Host. Sending the mail directly through the backup GMail account has worked effectively as an alternative.

- All broadcast mail including "Pending Users" and "Those Interested in the Network" are send out via the GMail account.

Old ContentThe NSBL Network Virtual Office was meant to be, primarily, a platform for fresh content. Although the Network has the ability to archive data, our experience is that we can not rely on the Host to provide this function accurately over time. For example, some keyword searches of old content will return a corresponding date like 1902 or 1933. In the coming months, the Advisiory Board will propose a plan to properly purge data and reset databases, in lieu of data retention. Stay Fresh!
