 NSBLN, February xxxxxx, 2007 ________________________________________
the following is draft content Hello Network Participants,
Welcome to the latest publication the NSBLN Newsletter. This electronic publication is a summary of what activity has transpired within the Network's Virtual Office in the prior week.
What's Hot! Last week's most important topic came from a Site Administrator's email focusing on finding and posting employment opportunities through the Network. Lee Keitt, NSBLN's Site Administrator, asked Network Participants to post any job availabilities you may know about. In addition, invite hiring managers, you know, to log in and join an employment resource our participants can access.
Also, the Network featured the activities of Dr. Rick Wright, noted Syracuse University Media Professor at the S. I. Newhouse School of Public Communications. Network Participants, from all around the country, called into Dr. Wright's streaming on-line Radio Show on Sunday to talk about the Super Bowl and other topics. A special Network survey was created to graphically tally the question: Where will you be watching the big game? Click here to see the results, and to add your own vote. Look forward to the Network announcing Dr. Wright's suggested topics weekly. Definitely, call in and support the show. Also, give a shout out to your fellow alumni and students.
Taking the Initial Surveys Several of you took the "Initial Surveys." Thank you. If you have not participated in taking the polls, please do so. Instantly, you will see that your vote counts. Clicking on the link below will take you directly to the NSBLN Pulse Survey Page. Again, everyone should visit the "Initial Surveys" section on the "Pulse Survey" page. On that page, you will be asked to vote on several questions. In addition, all Participants -- especially, if you are a "Pending Participant", "Invited Guest" or a "Visitor" -- please make sure to stop by the Visitor's Lounge @ Marshall Street (a chat room on the Network, sort of a cyber cafe). Additional information concerning the Visitor's Lounge can be found further down on this page.
Your Assistance IS Needed The NSBLN Web Development Team is looking for assistance managing this Newsletter and Web Portal. Please consider helping the Network out. Do you have web creation experience? Send your interest to the Site Admin.
Network Participation It bears repeating: Participation is the key. Yes, the Network is asking you to be creative, communicative, opinionated, giving, or just dutiful to the Universe. Please visit the Network Virtual Office on a routine basis, and show that your intellectual footprint has value. Sometimes, to make a difference in your life or another person's life may mean just showing up. So, visit often! Make your presence meaningful. Help someone when they have a question or a problem. Pose your own questions.
We should encourage ourselves, and others, to step out of personal cocoons and vacuums in order to participate in social, spiritual, and intellectual intercourse. You would just be surprised at the power your words could have on another human being. Hence, we should help ourselves through networking.
Tell us: How are we doing? Look for the Network to be about continual technological change and improvement. If you can point the way to alternative approaches, we definitely need your assistance. Currently, The Network is working with a budget of zero dollars, and answers only to those who participate. We are not looking for money from anyone. If we ever decide, however, that working capital is crucial to the existence of the Network, it will be the Network Participants and the Advisory Board who will recommend the changes. Already, we have heard that there is a need to revamp the "sign-up" process, the application/questionnaire and possibly finding a more user-friendly electronic networking environment. We are working on these tasks and more. We do need (constructive) feedback and help. As a reminder, we would like to have someone volunteer as a survey master, and you may find additional Network positions that need to be filled in the NSBLN Classifieds section.
Featured Slideshow The Network would like to continually request that Participants submit pictures of what is going on in their lives, be that "on campus" or "in the real world". We will choose among the submissions to feature in upcoming publications of the NSBLN Newsletter. To participate, you must be a Network Participant. Please properly identify your electronic submissions with facts and captions. The best way to do this is to log-in the Virtual Office and look for [FORUMS => Featured Slideshow]. There, you may attached your photos. We have limited space, therefore, please minimize your file size prior to uploading. We truly want to see what is going on in your lives. To all who participate, you are granting a release to the Network and giving the Network the right to publish your photo content. Due to space limitations, on a periodic basis, all photos will be purged. Please do not send photos in the US mail. They will not be scanned nor returned. Sorry.

Editor's Choice Featured Post | Network 2007 Focus: Careers and Jobs
"To those interested in the Network:
With the launch of the NSBL Network's web portal and newsletter behind us, we are now about the task of meeting our participants needs. [This is worth repeating] |
Lee Keitt '76 |
| The on-going need for most of us is and will be "careers and jobs." There are other networking areas, such as socializing, intellectual exchange, mentoring, news announcements, etc. However, career choice and management, and job search are paramount to having a fulfilling existence. For some of us, this will mean working for other people; and for others of us, becoming entrepreneurs.
The Network is a place to post employment and self-employment opportunities. As well, we would suggest that you refer any and all Human Resources and Employment Recruiters, whom you may know, to the Network. If you prefer, you may forward employment availabilities by self-posting in the Network's Virtual Office or by sending email to JobSubmit@nsblnetwork.org. Or, click here to reach an alternate approach.
Please forward this message to key personnel and friends. They may visit, and decide to sign-up. Let it be known that the Network is an electronic networking hub connecting several official and unofficial Syracuse University-related groups, as well as "Friends of Syracuse.'"

PD HOME | December 18, 2006 Dear Alumnus: I am pleased to inform you that the trip is sold out! In a little over 7 months, 130 alumni and their guests will embark on this memorable journey! I look forward to seeing everyone in Johannesburg. Sincerely,
Larry Martin Associate Vice President for Program Development
1987, the Office of Program Development has taken alumni on exciting getaways to the Bahamas, Jamaica, Cancun, Aruba, and Martha's Vineyard as part of our successful off-campus reunion program. As we sample the cultures of our exotic destinations, we have a lot of fun and we create great lasting memories (and some romance too). For some time, alumni have expressed a passionate desire to travel to Africa. At last, I am thrilled to report our dream is coming true. In August 2007, we will embark on CBT: Our Journey to South Africa! I invite you to join us on this historic trip to South Africa we will experience the people, culture, history, and beauty of this fascinating country. It will be the experience of a lifetime! Don't miss it! |

| | | | | | | | The S.U. Posse was created after CBT VII. The need for Alumni to keep in touch with emails seemed like a logical progression. Folks wanted to stay in touch. The first emails went out with information about the recent CBT. This became the new vehicle for communication. The information we share concerns job opportunities, available scholarships, cultural events, and Syracuse University related topics of interest. The memberships spans from 1960's to 2006.

| FSU 2007 "K.I.T." Keep In Touch !!!
FSU has spent the last six months working with a few Alumni clubs and groups so that we can and could continue to Keep In Touch as we grow and prosper. Along the way we have forgotten about those who have fallen, and those who continue struggle along the way. As Syracuse alumni we have too much power as individuals and a GREATER resource magnet NOT to realize that we need to Come Together EVERDAY !! If it's not an alum who is in need, it's a student, or a family member, or (how about this one...) YOU!...ME!, yes, I along with a communtiy of our alumni struggled to get through 2006.
It's 2007 and by K.I.T. we can only help rather than hurt ourselves and respective communties. So, if you are on the West Coast, Central-Mountain Coast, East Coast, in the Carribean, South America, and elsewhere PASS the word or should I say PHRASE for 2007..."KEEP IN TOUCH"!!! LEARN IT, LIVE IT, LOVE IT....BECOME IT!!!!

Visitor's Lounge | @ | Marshall Street | Welcome! | Welcome Visitors to the Newhouse School Black and Latino Network (NSBLN). Expect to find here a highly structured social networking environment, formulated on a business model. This network is in beta release and under continual improvement. Moreover, major components of the Network already include the following features: The content of the NSBL Network is whatever participants respectfully place here. Hence, if you see something you like or dislike, give us some feedback. If you would like to suggest improvements, please give us feedback at the NSBLN Virtual Office [FORUMS => "Feedback"]. Think of this network as a work in progress. Syracuse University Alumni of color, with no funds, have started it. It is not a membership organization; yet, open to all who, at some level, are willing to participate. The Network attempts to provide a networking environment where the networking participant can find, in one place, many aspects of the SU Experience. The NSBL Network experiment is unique and progressive in comparison with existing University alumni web sites in that this network embraces participation beyond the University’s walls. The belief here is that there are non-SU people who can reciprocally contribute and benefit from networking with us, especially if they may happen to be “Captains of Industry” or people of influence. Perhaps one day, the University will see this effort as a prototype and may eventually provide a better networking experience. Until then, we ask you to bear with the Network’s structure. | Join the NSBL Network | Please apply to become a full Participant of this social networking network. Presently, there is no "membership" requirement to use this network. However, the Network does require participation, at some level. Participation can be as minimal as asking/answering questions; or as great as, helping out with network administration. | About the Visitor's Lounge | The Visitor's Lounge @ Marshall Street is a common chat room in the NSBL Network's Virtual Office, a cyber cafe. Marshall Street, for Syracusans, is a busy street where we congregate for good food, drink and conversations. Show up to the Network's Lounge and Visitors might meet and greet some Network Participants. Once logged on to the Network, everyone has access to this [CHAT ROOM => "Visitor's Lounge @ Marshall Street]. However, be warned, a group administrator will clear out the Visitor Lounge’s content transcripts on a periodic basis. Also, please make sure to visit and leave a comment in the NSBLN's Guestbook [FORUMS => "Guestbook"]. |
